I am a web strategist, ui designer and visual storyteller.
MY ROOTS ARE IN BRANDING, PRINT DESIGN AND ADVERTISING. FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS I HAVE BEEN FOCUSED SOLELY ON HONING MY CRAFT FOR THE WORLD WIDE WEB.
In order to properly design and strategize for the web I have been studying how websites are built and learning to code. While I’m not a front-end developer, I have a greater appreciation and understanding of the implications of my design choices on developers. I now work side-by-side with developers throughout my strategy and design process to apply their expertise to the project and ensure a successful and beautiful product.
Growing up I was obsessed with arranging pictures and magazine cut outs. I pored over used stock photography books and begged my dad to bring me pens and magazines from his travels.
It wasn't until I got to college, that I realized this meant I loved graphic design. I had a lot to catch up on. I taught myself to draw, paint and use Photoshop. I convinced Virginia Tech to let me into their program and I threw myself into learning everything about the world of art and design.
I've never lost that feeling of starting out behind the eight ball. I use it as my secret weapon. I attack every job and project with the fierce tenacity of learning and proving the value of my work.
My other secret weapon is the beautiful and ordered world my mother created for my three sisters and I as children. She surrounded us with beautifully illustrated books, she forced us to go to art exhibits and gave us no choice but to love music. She ingrained in us that aesthetics matter.
I am a web designer living in Richmond Virginia. When I'm not in the office designing responsive websites, I'm at home with my husband and two young sons. Our favorite activities are playing with trains and going for walks.
Being a part-time working mom has been a great fit for our family. It allows me to keep up my skills and career, while also giving some breathing room for this sweet season of raising babies.
